What is Fascia?
Fascia is a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, that lies beneath the skin and surrounds muscles, bones, nerves, and blood vessels. It provides structure and support, allowing these structures to move smoothly and maintain their shape. Fascia is divided into three layers:
- Superficial Fascia: This layer lies just below the skin and contains fat and connective tissue. It helps in skin mobility and acts as a conduit for nerves and blood vessels.
- Deep Fascia: This denser and more fibrous layer envelops muscles, bones, nerves, and blood vessels, offering support and transmitting force throughout the body.
- Visceral or Subserous Fascia: This layer surrounds internal organs, providing a supportive and protective environment for the organs within the thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic cavities.
Fascia is critical in maintaining the structural integrity of the body, enabling movement, and facilitating the flow of interstitial fluids. It's also involved in proprioception and pain perception.
The Aura Collection works to smooth fascia and minimize the appearance of cellulite.
