Detox Your Skin With Dry Brushing

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Dedicate Time Every Day For the Aura Ritual

You'll dry brush the body daily, but focus on a different area of the body each day with gua sha -- you may pick the thighs, belly, arms, or hips for example. If you choose to work on the entire body in one day, that is fine as well, just a little more time-consuming.

Note: If you have bruising or marks from gua sha, don't perform gua sha over that area again until bruising has faded.

Here's a link to the Aura Ritual step-by-step in case you need a refresher.

Today's tutorial will focus on the proper dry brushing technique.

This tutorial covers the basics.

How To Dry Brush

The Aura Sweeper is designed to stimulate lymphatic flow, boost circulation, and energize the skin. A daily dry brushing ritual helps reduce the appearance of rippled skin by bringing blood flow and qi to the area regularly.

THE BASICS

This diagram explains the direction you should follow when you dry brush. As a general rule, sweep towards the lymph nodes at the armpit and groin.

Dry Brushing Guide

Start with naked skin, no oil is needed. This ritual is best performed before a shower or bath or immediately after.

Use a light to medium pressure. Your skin may turn slightly red or pink, which is a normal reaction to dry brushing.

1 — Begin with the tops of your feet.

2 — Continue brushing up the legs and behind the knees.

3 — Move to the hands and up your arms with circular strokes over your armpits.

4 — For breast health, sweep from the center of the breast outward in every direction.

5 — From the neck, brush downward towards the heart.

6 — Use large circular counter-clockwise strokes on your abdomen. This motion helps to stimulate digestion.

7 — Sweep upwards from the lower back and down the neck.

FIELD NOTES

Why does dry brushing work?

Consider this: You have 600 lymph nodes spread throughout the body. Amazing. The lymphatic system does not pump itself which means it relies on your movement (exercise) or manual therapies to stay in motion (dry brushing, gua sha, massage etc.).

The lymphatic system carries waste materials from the tissues. When you encourage lymphatic movement you are encouraging healthy, natural detoxification of the body.

Why did we combine dry brushing with gua sha? These modalities are not traditionally combined, learn what makes the Aura Collection so special.
